Overseas Compliance Operation of High-Power Diesel Generator Sets Equipped with Black Smoke Filtration and SCR DeNOx Systems

I. Project Overview

Hebei Hanlan Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. successfully delivered a customized integrated exhaust aftertreatment solution combining a Black Smoke Filtration Unit and an SCR DeNOx System for an overseas power generation project.

The project covered five high-power diesel generator sets, each rated at 1970 kW / 1500 rpm. Following on-site commissioning, the system achieved stable operation and successfully passed local environmental compliance inspections, further demonstrating the company’s engineering capability in large-scale diesel exhaust emission control for international applications.

II. Customer Challenges and Compliance Requirements

The generator sets operate under demanding overseas environmental conditions, where exhaust emissions primarily consist of particulate matter (PM) and nitrogen oxides (NOx). Local environmental regulations imposed stringent emission limits on both visible smoke opacity and NOx concentration.

In addition to emission compliance, the project required the exhaust treatment system to maintain long-term operational reliability under complex climatic conditions, including high humidity, salt-laden air, and significant ambient temperature fluctuations. These factors placed elevated requirements on corrosion resistance, structural durability, and overall system stability.

III. Solution Configuration and Technical Advantages

To address the project’s operational and compliance requirements, Hebei Hanlan developed a fully customized integrated exhaust gas treatment solution combining particulate filtration and selective catalytic reduction technologies.

Black Smoke Filtration Unit

The black smoke filtration system was designed to effectively eliminate visible soot emissions while achieving high-efficiency particulate matter capture under continuous high-load engine operation.

SCR DeNOx System

The SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system adopts a mature low-temperature denitrification process with a designed operating temperature window of 300–450°C. The system maintains stable NOx conversion efficiency even under fluctuating engine exhaust temperature conditions, ensuring continuous compliance during variable load operation.

Based on the project’s exhaust parameters and application requirements, the system was specifically engineered for coordinated PM and NOx reduction. To further ensure long-term operational efficiency, Hebei Hanlan also provided recommendations regarding diesel fuel quality management and generator operating conditions, helping optimize catalyst performance and equipment lifespan.

IV. Equipment Scope and Anti-Corrosion Design

To ensure reliable operation across diverse overseas environmental conditions, corrosion resistance and structural reliability were incorporated throughout the equipment design and manufacturing process:

Supply Scope

The supplied system covered the complete exhaust treatment section from the black smoke purifier inlet flange to the SCR reactor outlet exhaust piping, including:

· Gas handling systems

· Liquid dosing systems

· Electrical control systems

· Internal process pipelines and auxiliary components

Material Selection and Corrosion Protection

Key structural components and connection parts were selected based on long-term durability requirements:

· Flanges were manufactured from carbon steel with high-temperature anti-corrosion coating treatment.

· Fasteners were either Dacromet-coated or fabricated from stainless steel materials.

· The overall system was designed to meet C4-grade corrosion protection standards, enabling reliable operation under humid, salt spray, and temperature-variable environments.

V. Operational Performance and Compliance Results

During on-site operation, the actual generator exhaust parameters remained consistent with the original design inputs and operating assumptions of the exhaust purification system.

Following treatment through the integrated black smoke filtration and SCR DeNOx system, all major emission indicators consistently complied with local environmental regulations and project acceptance standards. The system subsequently passed final environmental acceptance and entered stable operational service.
